Dog Licences

Requirements

All dogs over the age of six months that live within the City of Salmon Arm boundaries must be licensed. Licensing your dog provides identification which will allow us to return your dog to you if he / she is lost or stolen.

Renewals

If you pay for your dog’s license on or before February 15, you may deduct a $5 early payment discount off the license fee. Dog license fees are reduced by 50% for dogs acquired and licensed after July 31.

Dog licenses may be purchased at the following locations in Salmon Arm:

  • City Hall - 500 – 2 Avenue NE
  • Or can be purchased online.

Commissionaires are providing Dog Control Services under contract to the City and can be reached at 1.236.586.4181 or email SAAC@commbc.ca.

Dog Control Bylaws
Bylaw #2498 is an update to the Fee for Service Bylaw that outlines the Dog Impoundment Fees.
 
Bylaw #2760 is an amended Ticket Information Utilization for No Dog Licence and Failure to remove excrement.

Dog Excrement

Dog owners should be aware that the City of Salmon Arm has a “Stoop ‘n Scoop” bylaw relating to dog feces. The provisions of the bylaw state that:

  • No dog shall be permitted to excrete on any property other than his / her owner’s property.
  • The owner of a dog shall promptly remove any excrement deposited by his / her dog on another person’s property.
  • Dog owners shall not permit dog excrement to accumulate in such a manner as to be offensive or unsanitary.

Public parks within the City of Salmon Arm (where dogs are allowed on a leash) have plastic bag dispensers for public use. Thank you for keeping our parks clean and safe for all to enjoy. 

Removal of Deceased Animals

Please call the City of Salmon Arm Public Works Department at 250.803.4080 for removal of deceased animals. This is particularly important with dogs, as they may have identification which would allow us to notify the owner.
