Lakeshore Road Slope Stabilization

Phase 1 - Stabilization Works

On June 10, 2024 Council awarded the contract for Phase 1 of the Lakeshore Road Stabilization work to D Webb Contracting Ltd. Phase 1 included the installation of an earth fill buttress along the toe of the slope and the extension of a stormwater outfall in accordance with The Contract Drawings.

When completed the new buttress will stabilize the road above, the temporary access road below Lakeshore Road will be removed and the embankment will be allowed to re-vegetate.

Phase 2 – Road Upgrades

Onsite Engineering Ltd are working with the City to finalize designs for the planned upgrades to Lakeshore Road.

Upgrades are planned to include Curb and Gutter, 3m wide Multi-Use Path and Street Lights. Upgrades to underground utilities within the road will also take place where required, together with further road stabilization works. Subject to agreement with BC Hydro / Telus the existing overhead services will be moved underground and utility poles removed.

What’s Next and when will it be built?

During 2025 the City will be working towards securing any land or rights-of-ways required to accommodate the new road design. Additionally, design work will continue to finalize the BC Hydro and Telus underground designs. Subject to successfully securing land, right-of-ways and funding the City will move ahead with construction in future years. Construction is likely to take at least 1 full year, during which time access to Lakeshore Road will be limited to local traffic only and all other traffic will be diverted.
