The City of Salmon Arm recognizes that one of the critical steps to building a safe and secure community is to strengthen support for its vulnerable youth.
In consultation with all of the partner organizations who work with vulnerable youth in the Shuswap and through funding from Public Safety Canada and the Building Safer Communities Fund, the City of Salmon Arm developed a Youth Resilience Strategy for 2023-2026.
This inter-agency strategy focuses on increased opportunities for partnership and collaboration among all local organizations that work with at-risk youth.
The following initiatives are included in the strategy:
The Shuswap Youth Services Collaborative (SYSC) is the heart of this strategy which includes 18 organizations that work with vulnerable youth in the Shuswap. This inter-agency collaborative meets bi-monthly to increase awareness, address gaps, reduce barriers and foster a sense of belonging. Sharing best practices through peer-to-peer learning and focusing on increased opportunities for partnership and collaboration is another main reason for the development of the Shuswap Youth Services Collaborative (SYSC).
The Youth Services Map was created to increase awareness of resources across SYSC member organizations.
