Fire Safety Activities

The Salmon Arm Fire Department promotes fire safety within the community by participating in a variety of community events through the delivery of fire safety programs and presentations to focus groups.

Fire Hall Tours

Tours provided at the fire hall involve fire safety talks, demonstrations, fire truck inspections and a review of firefighting gear and equipment. Elementary and preschools, Girl Guides, Brownies, Cubs and Boy Scouts are just a few of the groups that enjoy these tours. Fire hall tours are conducted year round with May and June being the most popular months. Call the administration office at 250.803.4060 to book your tour.

Fire Prevention Week

Each October, in partnership with the Office of the Fire Commissioner, the Salmon Arm Fire Department participates in the Fire Prevention Week campaign, a fire safety initiative promoted throughout the community.

The Fire Department also attends local elementary schools presenting age-appropriate fire safety messages. Materials and guidance are provided to local school teachers for presentation to students in the classroom. The Salmon Arm Fire Department recognizes the effectiveness of children in promoting fire safety to adults.

An open house is also held, inviting the public to drop in at any of the four halls to meet their local firefighters, look at our equipment and pick up some valuable fire safety information.

Emergency Preparedness Week

As a member of the Shuswap Emergency Program (SEP), the Salmon Arm Fire Department participates in the annual Emergency Preparedness Week events. During this week, Fire Department personnel are able to meet the public, provide fire safety information, recruit new firefighters and discuss the services that the department provides. This event also allows the public to view some of the specialized equipment used to fight fires.
