Smartphones have the potential to make local history vastly more accessible and engaging. Seeing how we’ve all had to adapt to COVID-19 by adopting virtual technologies, that’s more true now than ever. Now anyone with a smartphone can see Salmon Arm through the eyes of people a century or more ago, creating an exciting and tangible connection with the past. The tours and photographs aren’t just for tourists, but people who have called Salmon Arm home their entire lives. This experience is especially popular with young people, and we hope this becomes a fantastic educational tool for people growing up in Salmon Arm, and it encourages them to see and think about their community in a new way.
The app is free to download from https://onthisspot.ca and available on iOS and Android devices. The photos and tours will also be freely available on On This Spot’s website.
