Dog Licences
All dogs over the age of six months that live within the City of Salmon Arm boundaries must be licensed. Licensing your dog provides identification which will allow us to return your dog to you if he / she is lost or stolen.

If you pay for your dog’s license on or before February 15, you may deduct a $5 early payment discount off the license fee. Dog license fees are reduced by 50% for dogs acquired and licensed after July 31.

Dog licenses may be purchased at the following locations in Salmon Arm:

  • Paw Spa - 1631 12 Avenue SE

Dog Control Services
Dog control services are carried out by Pat Ellis (K-9 Control), under contract with the City of Salmon Arm. The dog control officer is responsible for:
  • Advising owners of impounded dogs
  • Bylaw enforcement for dog regulation
  • Carrying out patrols
  • Catching and impounding dogs at large
  • Disposing of dogs when necessary
  • Issuing licenses, tickets and fines
  • Responding to dog control complaints with respect to dog control

Dog Excrement
Dog owners should be aware that the City of Salmon Arm has a “Stoop ‘n Scoop” bylaw relating to dog feces. The provisions of the bylaw state that:
  • No dog shall be permitted to excrete on any property other than his / her owner’s property.
  • The owner of a dog shall promptly remove any excrement deposited by his / her dog on another person’s property.
  • Dog owners shall not permit dog excrement to accumulate in such a manner as to be offensive or unsanitary.

Public parks within the City of Salmon Arm (where dogs are allowed on a leash) have plastic bag dispensers for public use. Thank you for keeping our parks clean and safe for all to enjoy.

Removal of Deceased Animals
Please call the City of Salmon Arm Public Works Department at 250.803.4080 for removal of deceased animals. This is particularly important with dogs, as they may have identification which would allow us to notify the owner.
