Welcome to the Mayor’s blog for November 15, 2012

2013 Budget
2013 Budget meetings are being held at City Hall next Monday November 19 at 9 am and Thursday November 22 at 9 am. The public is welcome.

Gas Prices
Gas prices in Salmon Arm. Mayor, Councillors, and Staff have received a number of complaints regarding gas prices in our area. We are just as confused as all of you as to the reason why the price of gas in our area is higher than in neighbouring communities. Unfortunately we do not have control over this issue.

Winter
As winter and snow are now upon us, please ensure you have winter tires on your vehicles and use caution when driving. City crews will be out plowing, etc. as needed with major routes cleared first and all other routes completed later.

November 13, 2012 - Council Meeting

Agenda Items
Presentations
RCMP
RCMP Staff Sergeant Kevin Keane reported on crime statistics to the end of September 30, 2012. When I hear from other communities regarding their issues with policing I feel we are fortunate to receive great service from our local RCMP Detachment.

Inov8
A presentation by Inov8 a newly formed creative local group of writers, musicians, graphic artists, developers, artists, architects, and publishers, film makers, illustrators, designers, printers, and photographers  all business owners and organization leaders working  together.  Council was very impressed with this group and their new and refreshing ideas. They talked about the importance of creativity in all aspects of community building and would like the opportunity to be invited into city business discussions that relate to design and communications.
Thank you for the presentation Inov8 !

Council Approvals
  • Zoning Amendment Bylaw No. 3943;
    • Earlier this year the property at 151 60th Street NW in Gleneden was rezoned from rural holding - A2 to small holding – A3. Due to the cost of connecting the property to the city water system, the owners asked that the property be returned back to the original A2 zoning. Council agreed.
  • Cross Connection control bylaw received final reading; and
  • New Building Bylaw received final reading.
